Devon Departs

November 10th

Its always hard to send a child away, especially if you know you wont be seeing them for two years. I am so happy for Devon, and know with all my heart that this will be one of his most cherished experiences..that of serving a mission. But I cant help it, I miss him already. Devon has worked too hard to have it spoiled because of a weepy mom, so I tried to keep it happy and so did everyone else. I can honestly say that it was lots easier taking him to the airport than what I remember of leaving Chase at the MTC. There just was simply no time to blubber. He sure makes a handsome missionary and what made me feel so much better was that there was at least 3 more elders and 1 sister in the same line he was in. Surely he will have some company on his flight and maybe even begin this new phase of life with making some new friends. Yeah Devon! It begins, the growing, the experiencing, the testimony!

A new Addition to our family

November 14, 2010

Heather's contractions were getting closer, and harder and I knew that it would only be a matter of time that I would be jumping in the pickup and driving over to get Sherry for our Trek to Safford to be present while our grand baby was born. The plan to travel together had been discussed and planned for quite awhile, but we did not expect that it would work out that LLoyd could travel with us. Finally about 10pm on November 13 we made the plan a reality. Lloyd had decided to take the next day off since it was a short day and come down with us, what he did not count on is that he would be in great pain with kidney stones throughout the trip. By the time we finally got to Safford, Lloyd beelined for the ER and Sherry and I headed straight back to OB. We found Heather quite comfortable after having received an epidural, but her muscles were shaking a lot. She looked like she was cold, but those of us who have had babies before recognize that this is just part of it. After making sure she was fine, I went back to ER to find Lloyd who was also shaking like he was cold, only he was dealing with great pains. I thought to myself, "I wonder which of these two people whom I loved very much would be having their "baby" first. I have always heard people describe passing kidney stones the equivalent to having a baby for a man. One woman I know told me that having kidney stones was worse. By the time Heather was ready to push, Lloyd was being loaded into the back of an ambulance to be taken to Tucson where they expected he would be having surgery to extract a very large stone. Talk about feeling torn...I wasn't sure where I should be. It was decided between Lloyd and I that I would stay to see the baby and then travel to Tucson once we knew what exactly was going to happen. Calen was born and I was in heaven to hold and behold him. Both mother and baby in very good shape and a very proud father. I was glad I was there to share in that.

Once Lloyd got to the Tucson hospital he actually passed 3 different stones and was told by the doc that if he was passing them, then they were not clogging the ureter and all would be fine without surgery. They wanted to keep him for the rest of the day though to make sure he had the pain taken care of. In all, Lloyd passed approx 8 stones in that 24 hour time and the best we can figure is that the cat scan must have shown all the stones together for the ER in Safford to think it was one, OR the bouncy ride over to Tucson in the back of an ambo broke the stone up. Either way, it was a wonderful blessing not have Lloyd go through surgery. We drove over that evening to get him and bring him back to Safford where he could finally hold his grand baby.

Calen is finally here! What a wonderful experience to be there with Heather and Chase as they had their first child. Except for a few minor details..(namely Lloyd and his kidney stones) all went rather smoothly. We saw many blessings this day. I wanted to have Heather tell it in her own words so I borrowed some of her blog.

Blessings.
Since I last posted it seems like I've got a totally different life, like I'm some other person taking over this blog. First, Chase and I moved into our new apartment. We love it here! It's a two bedroom one bath, simple, but much better than we are used to. We were very blessed to be able to move here.
Secondly, we've had our baby! Saturday afternoon I began having contractions and by the time Chase got home from work at four I was ready to go to the hospital. To our discouragement, after being at the hospital for two hours we were sent home because although I was feeling painful, regular, strong contractions and I was 90% effaced, I wasn't dilating fast enough to be in active labor. So we went home, had dinner (frito pie) and I decided to take a bath. By the time I got out my contractions were to painful to talk through and they were even stronger and closer together. So we went back, this time for good. We were admitted to the hospital around 11:30, began active labor around midnight and started pushing around 5:30 a.m. Once I had my epidural I didn't feel a thing. When the doctor told me it was time to start pushing I was shocked. I thought I'd be feeling some pain. I wasn't even sure I was pushing at all. Calen Mckay Wilkins was born at 6:13 a.m. Nov 14th. He was 7lbs 12oz, 18 1/2 in.

This was me holding him just after they got him cleaned up

Here is the proud papa after being up all night with Calen

Our third blessing deserves an explaination. Chase and I have been having a lot of car troubles. Our entire married life thus far we've been blessed to have a little ford ranger truck that just fit the two of us. The past few months it has been giving us diffiulties however, one thing after another has been going wrong with it and everything we tried to do to fix it just seemed to make matters worse. So here we are a month before our baby comes and we've been getting around in whatever vehicle our friends or loved ones have been so generous to let us borrow for the time. We had spent more than we had planned for trying to fix the truck and therefore had nothing left to go towards another vehicle. In all reality we didn't know if or when we'd be able to work out our car situation. We were just very grateful for those who were willing to help. Well, Calens birthday rolls around and there we are surrounded by our family in the hospital enjoying our beautiful new son. When Chase turns to me and starts telling me about this car that someone had offered to him. He was asking me how much I thought we could afford. He was even showing me pictures on our camera of this car. (I have to admit here that I was sort of frustrated that he would try to talk about our car situation with me while I was enjoying my new little boy and we were surrounded by family). But I realized finally that he was trying to tell me that we were the recipients of a very special blessing. That this vehicle was ours. Once I realized what he was saying all I could do was cry.

We have been truly blessed and I don't feel I could ever express enough gratitude for all that Heavenly Father so mercifully gives us.As the blessings continue to come I can only pray that I can somehow learn to show as much of Heavenly Fathers love to others as they have shown to me. I'm so thankful for this time of year that reminds us to show our gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving! And may each of us find a way to bless the life of another.

We are going to be Grandparents!

Chase and Heather are pregnant! Not sure how many weeks along she is, but I know that she is due about November 18th. At their first sonogram, they sent me a picture of our unborn grand baby. Later we found out that its a little boy! So far the pregnancy is going fine. Heather hasn't been too sick, and she makes a real cute pregnant lady.
Wow, we cant wait to hold this little one in our arms and sing to him, and watch him smile!

The call

June 13, 2010

The papers are in, the hardest part is over, and Devon is a happy boy to be able to resubmit his papers to go on a mission. Now all we have to do is wait!

July 13 And wait..........

Some people get their call in just a couple of weeks, but its not uncommon for it to take this long sometimes. Hopefully soon!

August 13 And wait...............

Starting to worry just a little. President Hunt called the mission offices to find out what is taking so long. They informed him that when a missionary is being re-called, it could take awhile. In fact, it could take another month. He said that he would call again on Sept 1, if it hasn't already come.

Sept 1st, President Hunt called mission offices again to find out what the hold up was. They informed him that we should be receiving the call either this coming up week, or the week after.

Sept. 10 It's here!

Got a text from Devon this morning....and this is all he sent!

Chase advised Devon to read some scriptures and pray to Father in Heaven and thank him for the call before he opened it. Funny thing...Kylie had a lesson in Seminary today on waiting for the Lord's time.

Hello :) this is Kylie! Okay so first thing that happened this morning in seminary is brother smith talked to us about asking the Lord when we need something! Lately I have been thinking and praying a lot for my brother to receive his call! so this morning in seminary I asked that they would pray for my brother Devon to get his mission call. The lesson I soon found out was on trusting in the Lord's timing! Hyrum Smith the older brother of Joseph Smith had gotten his call and it said to wait ( which was kind of Devon's situation) and he had to trust in the lords timing! I asked my seminary teacher to please print off the quotes on trusting in the Lords's timing and I marked off the scriptures in Doctrine and Covenants 11 on the subject. That way as soon as I got into the car for lunch I would be able to call Devon and tell him what I had learned and see if I could possibly calm his troubled mind. As soon as I got in the car my mom asked me if Devon had texted me and I said he hadn't! She told me that he had received his mission call! I could totally recognize the Lord answering my prayers to him and the prayers of my family members. I am so grateful for the power of prayer and for my brothers desire to go on a mission and the example that he sets for me! love- Kylie Rae

Devon opened his call at approximately 1:15, he has been called to the Idaho, Pocatello Mission. He reports on November 10th. Woohoo!

Jordyn' home away from home

July 7th, 2010
When Jordyn moved to Safford, she and Danae moved in with our cousin, Alice. That arrangement did not last long because Alice fell in love and will soon be getting married. Jordyn and Danae started looking for a new place to live, they fell into a real good deal at the Howards apartments. These are the same apartments that Heather lived in before she got married, and she said it brought back some good memories. Recently a new complex at the Howards was built, and because Jordyn was ready to move in so early, they got to move into the new complex. It really is a nice place, and the closest to the laundromat. That means, however, that they would have to find two more girls to move in with them. Luckily, one of Kylie's best friends, Katie Maschue, was looking for a place, and another real good girl, Kale Hamblin, as well. Both Katie and Kale will not be able to move to Thatcher until August, so Jordyn and Danae will stay in the apartment alone till they get there. They will all 4 be paying $175 a month, plus utilities, but each girl is responsible for themselves and the others will not be penalized for it. The apartments are just a few blocks from the school, so that will make it easy for them as well.

Kylie, Katie, Paige and I came down last night to help move Jordyn into her new apartment. Thank goodness we have Chase's muscles, and our Tundra, and all these girls to help move things. It went fairly quick and we were pretty much done by the time Devon got off work. He arrived just in time to have some homemade enchiladas with us.
Jordyn's new home is nice, and she is excited, and so is Katie. Heavenly Father has sent them some wonderful blessings!

Our beautiful butterfly

June 12, 2010

Paige turns 13 today, a very long awaited birthday, indeed! Today was the day set apart for Paige to begin wearing makeup. Its hard, sometimes, to wait, but it was definitely worth it. Not only can she start wearing makeup, but we also decided to let her get her hair done at a salon. Dad encouraged Paige to get some highlights in her beautiful red hair, and Paige finally got bold enough to cut it. Her long hair is now short, and styled and she emerges a beautiful butterfly.

Her best friend, Abbi, joined us for the day, and we went to the movies and Pizza Hut. It was a wonderful day. Happy Birthday, Paige!

Mom and Dad's night at the ballfield!

July 19

We are Diamondback Fans!

Lloyd and Lisa love to watch the Diamondbacks play ball. With the help of a good friend of LLoyd's, we get to go every year. The seats are great, practically right on the field, right near the bullpen where the players hang out. The game started about 6pm, but you just have to get there early enough to walk all the way around the concourse to see all the vendors and check out the field. Our starting pitcher was Kennedy, and he did very well...played for several innings and kept the Mets from making any score. The pitcher for New York didn't have the same luck and we were able to score right off the bat and keep scoring all through the game. The ending score was 11-3, in our favor. We love being at the ball park, we love eating the concessions and........
we love winning!
Some of the funny things that night were the booblehead races, and watching the sky tron. What a great date night!
